The Denver Broncos suffered a setback at the linebacker position as second-year player Drew Sanders tore his Achilles tendon during an April workout, likely causing him to miss the majority, if not all, of the 2024 season. However, advancements in Achilles tendon recovery offer hope for a quicker return for Sanders.

Fortunately, the Broncos’ training staff is expected to assist in Sanders’ rehabilitation to help him potentially make an impact later in the season. With Sanders sidelined, rookie pass-rusher Jonah Elliss has an opportunity to step up and fill the gap.

Elliss will have the chance to develop his skills during upcoming workouts and training camp behind established linebackers Nik Bonitto, Jonathon Cooper, and Baron Browning. Bonitto provides a strong example for Elliss to follow as he was able to thrive after being thrust into a starting role following a trade that sent Randy Gregory to the San Francisco 49ers during the 2023 season.

Bonitto’s growth throughout the 2023 season serves as inspiration for Elliss as he prepares to take on a larger role. With talented Sanders on the mend, Elliss has an opportunity to make a significant impact as he works his way into the lineup.
