Premium economy is coming to Delta flights between New York JFK and Los Angeles in September. This will be the only domestic route where Delta offers its premium economy cabin known as Premium Select. The airline will feature this cabin on four out of its 11 daily flights between the two cities, using freshly refurbished Boeing 767-400ER aircraft.

Passengers flying in Premium Select seats on the 767s can enjoy 38 inches of legroom and seven inches of recline. This is an upgrade from the 32 inches of legroom offered in standard economy seats and 34 inches in the extra-legroom Comfort Plus seats on these aircraft. The Premium Select cabin is configured in a six-across layout, compared to the seven-across configuration in the economy cabin.

In addition to enhanced seating, Premium Select customers will receive a complimentary in-flight meal, dedicated check-in and baggage service, and upgraded in-flight amenities such as noise-canceling headsets. SkyMiles members with loyalty status will have the opportunity to apply for upgrades to Premium Select on the JFK-LAX route, following similar procedures for domestic first-class upgrades.

Delta’s move to introduce premium economy on this route follows in the footsteps of United, which already offers premium economy-configured aircraft on transcontinental flights between Newark and LAX, as well as between Newark and San Francisco.
