Ivan Šanteković, a 60-year-old man from Vukosavljevica near Virovitica, was shocked to see a 180-kilogram deer on his family’s covered terrace. After calling the police, it was determined that the deer had likely been killed in a collision with a vehicle and not from any firearm or other weapon wounds. The Virovitica-Podravska Police Department confirmed that the deer came from the forest and entered Šanteković’s yard after the collision.
The animal’s death was due to internal injuries that were not visible from the outside. The six-year-old deer could be classified in the silver category due to its size of horns. Željko Rešetar, a hunter from Pheasant Hunting Association Špišić Bukovica, also visited the terrace and noted that it is common for wounded animals to seek safe places to hide.
Rešetar added that this incident highlights the unpredictable nature of wildlife encounters in this area of Pheasant Hunting Association and emphasized on people being cautious while living near forests or wildlife habitats.
