In a world where truth seems to be becoming increasingly fragmented and certainty is hard to come by, the book “Proof: The Uncertain Science of Certainty” by Adam Kucharski seeks to provide readers with an essential guide on distinguishing truth from fiction. The author, who previously wrote the bestselling “The Rules of Contagion,” delves into over 2,000 years of history and science to explore the emergence and faltering of truth.

Publishing director Cecily Gayford and editorial director Izzy Everington at Profile Books were excited to acquire the rights to publish Proof, with world all-language rights obtained from Peter Tallack at Curious Minds. Additionally, Profile has sold US rights to Basic Books, with the publication date set for March 2025.

Kucharski’s latest book will be his most ambitious yet as he navigates through fields such as science, politics, philosophy, and economics to analyze how truth is established. He is an associate professor at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, a TED senior fellow, and a recipient of prestigious awards. In a time where people are struggling to find reliable sources of information, Kucharski aims to provide readers with the tools they need to establish the truth and convince others.

Everington expressed excitement about publishing Proof and believes it will be an important contribution to the ongoing conversation about truth in our society today. She notes that Kucharski’s unique approach to analyzing truth across various disciplines will make it a valuable resource for anyone looking for clarity in these uncertain times.
