In the midst of ongoing conflict in Myanmar, a military air strike has resulted in the deaths and injuries of dozens of civilians. This report comes from resistance fighters who have been fighting against the generals since February 2021. The attack targeted a wedding party in Mingin, located in Sagaing region, killing at least 20 people and injuring more than 30 others, including women and children.

The People’s Defense Forces (PDF), a resistance group that has been active since the coup, stated that the attack took place while people were gathered for a wedding celebration. The military launched an initial bombardment from the air followed by heavy weapons fire, causing chaos that made it difficult to recover the dead and provide care for the injured. Unfortunately, reports suggest that even members of the bride’s family were among those killed in this brutal attack.

Since the coup, Myanmar has been plagued by violence and instability with various ethnic groups fighting against the military regime across different regions. According to international experts, over 86% of communities in Myanmar have lost effective control due to this unrest. In their latest report, Special Advisory Council stated that this loss of authority means that Myanmar is no longer able to maintain order or protect its citizens as well as before February 2021 coup.
