Washington’s new women’s pro soccer team, DC Power Football Club, is set to begin their inaugural season this summer as one of the eight founding teams in the USL Super League. Angel Reese, a rising star in the WNBA, has become a part-owner of the team and is helping to grow women’s sports and elevate female athletes in the community.

Reese, originally from the Baltimore area but deeply connected to D.C., has chosen to make her investment close to home. Other investors in the DC Power FC include D.C. United as well as “community and business leaders” from the area.

In addition to Reese’s investment, the team has also announced their first president, Jordan Stuart, their first head coach, former DC United player Frédéric Brillant, and the team name. The decision to invest in women’s soccer at the local level has been commended by Jason Levien, D.C. United CEO and Co-Chairman, who sees Reese as a catalyst for positive change in women’s sports.

Other local players have also shown support for the team including those from the Washington Nationals and Washington Capitals who are expected to join ownership group soon. Investing in pro sports teams has become a popular status symbol among star athletes with Patrick Mahomes and his wife Brittany recently becoming part-owners of Kansas City Current while Tom Brady has ownership stakes in Las Vegas Aces and Las Vegas Raiders respectively.
