Dazzling Displays and Insights: A Father-Son Dynamic at Shanghai’s Book Swap Fair

A father and son attended the book swap fair at the Shanghai Library East Branch, which was organized by the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum to celebrate World Book and Copyright Day on April 23. The fair, part of the museum’s new reading campaign “Incredible Reading,” drew participants from various schools, including Luwen Second Center Primary School, Future Academy of Science and Technology, and Shanghai Shangde Experimental School.

During the fair, students showcased models of rockets, spaceships, and other items related to China’s space achievements that they had made by hand. These models were accompanied by books that were swapped between students.

As part of the campaign, five prominent figures shared their views on science books through videos. Among them was Ni Minjing, director of the museum, who recommended George Gamow’s classic book “One, Two, Three … Infinity,” where the renowned nuclear physicist makes the world of science accessible to general readers. Other speakers included physicist Chu Junhao, neurosurgical expert Feng Junfeng, Pudong’s sci-fi association director Gu Bei, and physics teacher Xia Zhendong.
