In a major milestone for the advancement of sodium-ion energy storage technology, Datang Group has successfully connected the first phase of its 100 MW/200 MWh sodium-ion energy storage project in Qianjiang, Hubei Province to the grid. The announcement was made by China’s state-owned power generation enterprise on June 30.

The project, which has a capacity of 50 MW/100 MWh, is now the world’s largest operating sodium-ion battery energy storage system. It consists of 42 battery energy storage containers and 21 sets of boost converters, and utilizes large-capacity sodium-ion batteries from HiNa Battery Technology. The project is part of the Datang Hubei Sodium Ion New Energy Storage Power Station, which is expected to reach completion by the end of this year.

This achievement marks a significant milestone in the advancement of sodium-ion energy storage technology and underscores Datang Group’s commitment to investing in renewable energy solutions. The successful connection of this phase marks a significant step forward in bringing sustainable energy solutions to China and beyond.
