Digital transformation is transforming the business world and creating new roles such as data managers. A report by EY and the Club Chief Data Officers Spain & Latam reveals that over half of data managers currently hold positions created in 2023, indicating a professionalization and industrialization of the Chief Data Officer role.

The data manager role typically requires a computer engineering or telecommunications graduate with nearly 20 years of experience and an average age of 43 years. The growth of data teams in companies is evident, with 88% of data areas expanding and a third doubling in size. Major sectors like banking and insurance are leading in data management, while others like transportation and energy are also on the rise.

Looking ahead, 84% of data directors plan to further expand their teams, with some estimating growth of at least 50%. Large companies are increasingly reinforcing their teams with external services. The Public Administration sector is in its early stages of data maturity, highlighting the ongoing journey towards fully leveraging the value of data ecosystems in various industries.
