Dark Matter Technologies, previously known as Black Knight Origination Technologies, has appointed Vikas Rao as the deputy chief product officer. In this new role, Rao will oversee improvements to the Empower loan origination system (LOS) and establish Dark Matter’s developer community. This initiative is designed to help mortgage lenders incorporate automation more efficiently into their origination processes while achieving better integration of their systems using open APIs and widgets.

Before joining Dark Matter Technologies, Vikas Rao was the vice president of product management at Ellie Mae, a mortgage origination technology provider that was acquired by Intercontinental Exchange for $11 billion in 2020. During his time at Ellie Mae, Rao led the product strategy for the Encompass loan origination platform and the Developer Connect solution, which offers a range of APIs for lenders and partners to securely share information.

Dark Matter CEO Rich Gagliano praised Rao’s success in driving digital innovation and API utilization in the mortgage origination industry. With over 15 years of experience in software engineering, product management, and technology leadership, Rao is well-equipped to play a key role in Dark Matter’s mission to empower lenders through AI, automation, and innovation. His technical expertise and leadership style are expected to bring valuable contributions to the company’s growth.
