Daphne Technology’s SlipPure™ system has been granted Approval in Principle (AiP) by Lloyd’s Register (LR) for its innovative Plasma-Catalytic technology. This cutting-edge system is designed to reduce methane slip, a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, in the maritime and oil and gas industries. Methane has a global warming potential 28 times greater than CO2 over a 100-year period, making it an urgent issue that needs to be addressed.

The advanced SlipPure™ system received AiP for its plasma-only setup and has now met the criteria for its full Plasma-Catalytic configuration. Rigorous test campaigns were conducted using exhaust gas from a land-based test engine at the Maritime Center of the University of Applied Science in Flensburg, Germany. These tests demonstrated the system’s ability to remove methane slip at temperatures as low as 380 °C, which enhances efficiency compared to traditional catalyst-only solutions.

The safe operation of the WPP power supply in the plasma-only setup was proven during 75 hours of testing in January 2023. Subsequently, the Plasma-Catalytic process underwent nearly 100 hours of evaluation, showcasing a 62% reduction in methane slip at 75% load. Dr Mario Michan, CEO and Founder of Daphne Technology, expressed gratitude for the AiP approval and highlighted the readiness of their technology for market deployment.

Lloyd´s Register Global Gas Segment Director, Panos Mitrou, emphasized the significance of Daphne Technology’s innovation in addressing methane slip in these industries. LR has collaborated with Daphne Technology for several years, and the recent testing has demonstrated the efficacy and reliability of the Plasma-Catalytic technology. This AiP signifies a crucial step towards reducing methane emissions and advancing sustainable practices in these industries.

Overall, Daphne Technology’s SlipPure™ system represents an important breakthrough in mitigating greenhouse gas emissions from the maritime and oil and gas sectors through innovative plasma catalytic technology.
