In a bid to modernize daily fantasy sports in New York, State Senator Joe Addabbo invited several well-known individuals to the state Capitol. Among them was former New York Yankees star Tino Martinez, who believes that the bill would improve the fantasy sports experience for New Yorkers like himself. Martinez mentioned that daily fantasy sports bring his family together and provide an engaging way to learn about different players and discuss the games with loved ones.

Addabbo explained that the bill aimed to update the regulatory environment for daily fantasy sports while raising the age requirement for participation from 18 to 21. The change aims to close a loophole and align daily fantasy sports with mobile sports betting on a level playing field. Addabbo expressed his commitment to making the state a better place for residents by creating a safer and improved product.

Despite concerns about market saturation with new betting options such as horse racing, casinos, and sports, Addabbo emphasized that daily fantasy sports operate on a separate track from mobile sports betting. He believes that expanding offerings will not interfere but enhance the overall betting experience. Super Bowl champion David Tyree echoed this sentiment, stating that in a rapidly changing world of sports, people are looking for ways to interact with games rather than just watching them. Tyree sees the bill’s safeguards and opportunities as a step in the right direction for the industry.
