D.J. Wagner, a highly touted 5-star prospect from Kentucky, has committed to play for the University of Arkansas. This marks the eighth addition to the team’s roster under new coach John Calipari, who took over in April. Prior to Wagner’s commitment, Arkansas’ transfer class was ranked first nationally by 247Sports, with six players having ties to Kentucky.

On3.com has rated Arkansas’ high school signing class as the second best in the nation. Wagner officially visited Fayetteville and also checked out Southern Cal before deciding on Arkansas. During his freshman year at Kentucky, he averaged 9.9 points, 3.3 assists and 1.9 rebounds per game and received multiple accolades including being selected to the All-SEC Freshman Team and earning SEC freshman of the week honors three times.

Wagner’s family has a strong basketball pedigree; his father DaJuan played for Calipari at Memphis and his grandfather Milt was a standout player at Louisville. Wagner himself was rated as the top combo guard and the sixth overall recruit in the 2023 class by On3.com, he has already participated in prestigious events like the McDonald’s All-American game and the Iverson Classic where he earned MVP honors.

With Wagner’s commitment, Arkansas continues to solidify its roster for the upcoming season, adding a talented player with a promising future in college basketball to its impressive list of transfers under Coach Calipari’s leadership
