U.S. service members with historical ties to D-Day have gathered in Normandy, France to take part in over 100 events honoring the 80th anniversary of the invasion. The veterans were warmly greeted by crowds of well-wishers with cheers and applause upon their arrival.

Leaders and dignitaries from the United States and other allied nations are expected to attend many of the commemorative events in Normandy. Their presence not only underscores the U.S.’s commitment to European security but also pays tribute to the heroes who fought for liberty over tyranny during World War II.

Although the number of World War II veterans attending D-Day anniversary events in Normandy decreases each year, the gratitude and admiration for their service and sacrifice remain strong.
