Blanca Rosa Aguilar Uscanga, head of the Cucei Human Milk Research Laboratory at the University Center of Exact Sciences and Engineering in Guadalajara, Jalisco, is thrilled to announce a groundbreaking method developed after 10 years of research. The laboratory has successfully created a unique process to convert human milk into milk powder while retaining all its beneficial properties for up to two years.

Unlike other methods like freeze-drying or pasteurization, Cucei’s spray drying process does not introduce any preservatives or additives to the milk, making it an ideal choice for infant consumption. The powdered human milk is stored in airtight packages or jars and can be kept at room temperature for up to two years without losing its nutrients.

Human milk contains proteins, carbohydrates, enzymes, living cells, and other components that are retained in the powder form. This process is an excellent conservation method that retains the nutritional, biological, and sanitary qualities required for infant consumption.

Cucei provides a lactation room on campus where up to three mothers can express their milk in a hygienic and comfortable environment. This service is open to all breastfeeding individuals who can request the extraction and drying service for a fee. With this new method, parents can provide their babies with the same nutritional benefits as they would receive from freshly expressed milk without having to worry about preservation or storage issues.
