The Chicago Cubs made several roster changes before their Sunday game against the Cincinnati Reds. They brought back infielder David Bote from Triple-A Iowa and sent Nick Madrigal to Iowa in corresponding moves. Additionally, pitcher Adbert Alzolay was placed on the 60-day injured list to create room for Bote on the 40-man roster.
Bote, who signed a five-year contract with the Cubs in 2020, has not played in the majors since 2022. However, he has had success at Triple-A Iowa this season, hitting seven home runs, 15 RBI, and a .259/.342/.546 slash line. On the other hand, Madrigal has struggled with a .221/.280/.256 slash line in 2024.
Alzolay went on the injured list in May with a right forearm strain. He has faced challenges out of the bullpen this season, with a 1-4 record and a 4.67 ERA in 18 appearances. His return timeline is uncertain, but he will be out at least until mid-July due to his injury.
The Cubs will play their final game of the series against the Reds on Sunday. Ben Brown will start on the mound for Chicago, and first pitch is scheduled for 1:20 p.m.
