CryoCollect, a Paris-based startup, has recently secured $4.3 million (€4 million) in funding from Engie New Ventures and GTT Strategic Ventures. The company specializes in biogas carbon capture and focuses on treating, purifying, and liquefying gases like biomethane, carbon dioxide (CO2), and hydrogen.

The startup’s technology captures, purifies, and liquefies CO2 from biogas produced through anaerobic digestion, creating liquid biogenic CO2 that can replace fossil CO2 in industries like food and beverage and synthetic fuel production. Haytham Sayah, CEO and co-founder of CryoCollect, expressed excitement about the partnership with Engie and GTT, emphasizing their commitment to accelerating the energy transition.

Engie New Ventures sees CryoCollect as strategically fitting in their investment portfolio, marking it as their third biogas-related investment and first in carbon management. Biogas, derived from organic waste in anaerobic digesters, is processed into biomethane or bio-LNG, which has lower greenhouse gas emissions than fossil natural gas. This supports decarbonization in sectors like road transport and heavy industry.

The synergy between CryoCollect’s technology and Engie’s activities in biogas production, bio-LNG, and industrial energy efficiency was highlighted. CryoCollect’s energy-efficient carbon capture technology is called the new standard in the biogas industry by Engie Renewable Gases Europe. This partnership reflects a commitment to sustainability and innovation in waste management and CO2 reduction.
