The compensation for election campaign expenses will be paid to political parties and candidates who won parliamentary seats in the Croatian Parliament. This is based on a report published by the SEC, which has yet to determine how much compensation each party and candidate will receive. However, it is expected that the compensation will be paid within 15 days of the report’s publication, which should take place in the first half of July.

The April elections cost almost 13 million euros, according to the provisional report on expenditure of funds for election implementation. However, this cost does not include compensation for election campaign expenses. It is estimated that this year’s elections will ultimately be more expensive than those held in July 2020 by around 2.2 million euros without compensation for election campaign costs. Without including compensation, the April elections cost almost 13 million euros, while those of July 2020 cost around 13.5 million with identical compensation.

The two main items in election costs are fees for electoral bodies and material costs such as election materials and IT support. For fees, 9.5 million euros were spent this year compared to 7.8 million four years ago due to an increase in fees and growth of various costs compared to 2020. Of the 9.5 million paid for work of electoral bodies, the highest amount was spent on election committees with about 70,000 members engaged followed by municipal ones (1.9 million) and city election commissions (835,000). More than 7,600 people were engaged in these committees during the April elections.

Compensation for elected board members varies depending on location with a fee of EUR 65 net per chairman or deputy chairman in Croatia while abroad it ranges from EUR 120-145 net per president or deputy president depending on country where voting took place over two days or not as well as number of voters present there
