In September, 250 finalists from a pool of over 88 thousand candidates will gather in Assisi, Italy for the Hippo Olympiad “English Without Borders”, an international competition promoting English language learning and fostering cooperation and competitive spirit among young people, educators, and mentors. Around twenty Croatian students have qualified for this event, excelling in seven age categories.

The best-performing student was Ivano Radić from Elementary School Pučiša Worksć, who won first place in the category for 7th and 8th grade students in Lido di Jesolo, Italy. This marked the only first place win for Croatia in the competition. Mentored by Srđana Vranjičić, Ivano’s success serves as an inspiring example of how dedication and hard work can lead to achievement, even from small towns.

Competitions like the Hippo Olympiad help students develop important life skills such as independence, confidence, and critical thinking while exposing them to different cultures and perspectives. By participating in such events, children are able to build a foundation of skills that will prove beneficial in various aspects of their future lives. The European qualifications saw participation from students of 23 countries and the upcoming finals in Assisi will host around 250 finalists from across the globe. Over 88 thousand elementary and high school students took part in the qualifications.
