The Nassau County Stadium was inaugurated by Usain Bolt, signaling an important milestone for cricket in the US. Located 35 kilometers east of Manhattan, this stadium is eagerly anticipated as it marks a new market for cricket. The India-Pakistan group league game on June 9 at Nassau County Stadium is expected to be a major highlight of the tournament. This stadium, with a capacity of 34,000, was completed in just six months thanks to the efforts of ICC and United States Cricket.
Chris Tetley, ICC’s head of events, assured that Nassau County ground meets international standards and has comparable size to Wankhede Stadium. The transformation of this ground from a municipal park to an international cricket stadium is a testament to the dedication and hard work put in by the organizations involved.
The pitches at Nassau County Stadium have been prepared in Florida under the expertise of Damian Hough, head curator of Adelaide Oval. Hough ensured that these pitches have pace and bounce, providing an ideal playing surface for tournament matches. The temporary galleries brought from Formula One track will be used during tournament before being returned after use.
With all preparations made and anticipation building up, cricket fans are eagerly looking forward to witnessing historic T20 World Cup matches at Nassau County Stadium – a ground that is set to make a mark on global stage of cricket.
