The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is having varying impacts on Long Island business owners. While some are seeing an increase in customers and revenue, others are taking a “wait and see” approach to gauge the effects of the tournament.

Jim Roggio of Burger City on Hempstead Turnpike mentioned that they have not been overwhelmed by the influx of customers from the cricket match attending the restaurant. However, Naveed Haroon, who owns La Carraia Gelateria and Spice & Curry Kabab & Grill, did notice an increase in foot traffic after the match.

Despite the expectations of a surge in customers, Roggio mentioned that the road closures around the park might have caused a decrease in customer flow to Burger City. He observed that the redirecting of cars may have prevented potential customers from reaching the restaurant. Meanwhile, both Roggio and Haroon expressed their hopes of seeing more crowds in the upcoming days to boost their businesses.

Charles Razenson, President of the Hicksville Chamber of Commerce, mentioned that chamber members are optimistic about the economic benefits that could be brought by this tournament to their community. Overall, while some Long Island business owners are already reaping rewards from this event, others are staying patient to see how it will ultimately impact their businesses.
