In recent years, the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce has been focusing on promoting mental wellbeing in the workplace through their “Make it Monday” forum. During a recent presentation, Jessica Kopischke, CEO of Frontier Health and Wellness, spoke about the importance of improving mental wellness options at work and where to find treatment solutions.

Kopischke emphasized that untreated mental health conditions are a leading cause of employee disability claims in the U.S., making it clear that employers should prioritize the mental health of their colleagues to create a safe work environment. She also highlighted the importance of showing respect and care for employees to foster a positive work environment.

Different companies offer various resources for mental health treatment, and Kopischke encouraged individuals to educate themselves on the resources available both at work and in their communities. By understanding insurance plans, EAP programs, and local providers, employees can access the support they need.

Despite the challenges of seeking mental health treatment in Alaska, Kopischke reassured attendees that it is okay not to be okay and that seeking help is important. She acknowledged the limited availability of mental health services in the state and the stigma surrounding mental health discussions, especially in a place like Alaska. However, she emphasized the importance of acknowledging when one is struggling and taking steps to manage mental health concerns.
