Recently, Mohamed Camara, who played for Mali during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, has come under fire for covering up anti-homophobia messages on his shirt during a match for Monaco. The sports minister of France, Amelie Oudea-Castera, has called for strong sanctions to be taken against both Camara and the club for this behavior.

During the recent Ligue 1 matches, all clubs wore a campaign logo on their kits and the competition’s emblem displayed rainbow colors in support of an anti-homophobia initiative by the Ligue de Football Professionnel. However, Camara placed white tape over the logo on his shirt and covered up the rainbow badge on his sleeve during Monaco’s match against Nantes.

The incident has sparked controversy as many people have expressed their disbelief at Camara’s actions. The LFP is currently investigating the matter and is expected to release its findings soon. Meanwhile, Monaco’s coach Adi Hutter has stated that the club supports the initiative and will have an internal discussion with Camara about his actions.

Camara scored a penalty in Monaco’s win over Nantes but his decision to cover up anti-homophobia messages has caused backlash from fans and authorities alike. This behavior is not acceptable and it should be condemned by everyone who values equality and human rights.
