During the visit to Black Phlox Candle Company in Texas’ Seventh Congressional District, Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07) was joined by Acting Under Secretary of Commerce for Minority Business Development (MBDA) Eric Morrissette and Greater Houston LGBTQ+ Chamber of Commerce CEO and Co-Founder Tammi Wallace. The visit took place during Pride Month and marked Congresswoman Fletcher’s third annual Pride Month business visit with the Chamber.

During the visit, Congresswoman Fletcher expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to welcome Acting Under Secretary Morrissette to her district and highlighted the importance of small businesses in the community and economy. She emphasized the role of the MBDA as a crucial partner in this work, stressing that it is essential to support minority-owned businesses and ensure that they have access to resources and opportunities that will help them grow and succeed.

The visit to Black Phlox was described as inspiring, with Congresswoman Fletcher enjoying learning about co-owner Rica Kendrick-Palmer’s vision for the company. She also participated in the candle-making process, which she found fascinating. The congresswoman reiterated her commitment to supporting policies that strengthen the community, businesses, and economy while continuing to champion equality and inclusion for all members of the LGBTQ+ community.

Congresswoman Fletcher is a Vice Chair of the Equality Caucus, which advocates for equal rights, elimination of hate-motivated violence, improved health and well-being of LGBTQI+ individuals, repeal of discriminatory laws, etc. Through her involvement in this caucus, she continues to push for greater equality and inclusion for all members of our society.
