In 2018, Congress legalized the limited manufacture and sale of consumable industrial hemp, which must contain no more than 0.3% Delta-9 THC. However, companies like CBDDY have been trying to evade state regulations and taxes applicable to recreational marijuana. Attorney General Weiser stated that Colorado’s legal cannabis regulations are designed to protect consumers, ensure safety and quality standards, and prevent cannabis from reaching minors. He emphasized that the defendant in this case sold products that were more potent than what is legally sold in state-licensed dispensaries without following requirements like lab testing and age verification.

The lawsuit was filed in Weld County against Gee Distributors, LLC and its owner, Christopher Landon Eoff, who operated the company as CBDDY. The company is accused of illegally selling cannabis products with THC levels up to 35 times higher than the legal limit of 0.3%. An investigation also revealed that CBDDY forged or altered certificates of analysis to misrepresent its products as legal. Additionally, many of the company’s products were marketed in ways that could appeal to children, such as through forms, flavors, and imagery.

Attorney General Weiser’s office is taking action to hold the company accountable for evading Colorado cannabis laws and putting consumers at risk. The lawsuit seeks to recover damages for the harm caused by CBDDY’s actions and prevent similar illegal activities from occurring in the future. The attorney general emphasized that his office will continue to work with law enforcement agencies and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with Colorado’s cannabis regulations and protect public health and safety.
