The National Weather Service in Huntsville recently received a visit from the NWS Office of Science and Technology Integration (OSTI), which plays a crucial role in overseeing technology integration and research projects for the NWS. During the visit, OSTI leadership engaged with local NWS staff to learn more about their work at the ground level.

The afternoon session focused on SPoRT (Short-term Prediction Research and Transition Center), research-to-operations (R2O) projects, and partnerships within the NWS. OSTI recognized the importance of SPoRT’s efforts in transitioning NASA research to NWS offices and saw value in continuing collaborative discussions and knowledge sharing on R2O/O2R (Research to Operations/Operations to Research) practices. They also acknowledged the successful integration of SPoRT products into NWS operations.

This visit underscored both NWS and OSTI’s commitment to working together to enhance the capabilities and services provided by the National Weather Service.
