Coco Gauff has made it to the second week of the French Open for the fourth year in a row. As the No. 3 seed, she defeated Dayana Yastremska of Ukraine in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 to reach the last 16 without dropping a set in three matches.

Gauff’s recent accomplishments include winning her first major title at the 2023 U.S. Open and reaching the semifinals of the Australian Open in January. She lost to Aryna Sabalenka, the reigning champion. Before this tournament, Gauff made it to the semifinals of her last clay tournament in Rome, where she was defeated by world No. 1 Iga Swiatek.

The French Open has been Gauff’s most successful major in terms of main draw match wins. In the past three years, she was eliminated by the eventual champion, including Barbora Krejcikova in the quarterfinals in 2021 and Swiatek in the final in 2022 and quarterfinals in 2023. The Paris Olympic tennis fields will be determined largely after this tournament, deciding which players will qualify for the upcoming competition.
