Coco Gauff has continued her impressive success at the French Open, reaching the second week of the tournament for a fourth consecutive year. The No. 3 seed defeated No. 30 Dayana Yastremska in straight sets to advance to the last 16 at Roland Garros without dropping a set in three matches.

After winning her first major title at the 2023 U.S. Open and reaching the Australian Open semifinals in January, Gauff has continued to perform well on the court. She recently made the semifinals of her last clay tournament before the French Open, where she lost to world No. 1 Iga Swiatek in Rome. The French Open has been Gauff’s most successful major in terms of total main draw match wins, although she has faced tough competition from eventual champions in past years.

Gauff may potentially face Swiatek again this year, as both players continue to advance in the tournament. Swiatek secured a victory on Friday, while Gauff is looking forward to her next match against Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto on Sunday. Meanwhile, in the men’s draw, Andrey Rublev was eliminated by Italian Matteo Arnaldi, while top seeds Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz moved closer to a potential semifinal meeting with strong performances in the third round.

As the French Open progresses, it is expected that more players will become contenders for spots in the Paris Olympic tennis tournament that will take place later this year on clay courts at Roland Garros
