The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has been emphasizing its commitment to health equity through various initiatives. Recently, the agency released updated versions of its Health Equity Fact Sheet and Strategic Plan webpage on May 24, aligning them with the 2023 Strategic Framework. The refreshed Strategic Plan highlights specific actions and policies implemented by CMS under each “strategic pillar.”

Following the success of its inaugural Health Equity Conference in June 2023, CMS held a second conference on May 29 and 30. The event featured discussions on important topics such as maternal health, access and affordability, and culturally sensitive care, led by federal officials, community-based organizations, advocates, and private partners.

In a blog post on Health Affairs on June 4, leaders from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) shared details on their efforts to promote health equity. The post discussed modifications to existing models and the development of new ones to incentivize equitable care. The authors highlighted progress made in the past year and upcoming work for 2024, specifically focusing on safety-net provider participation, data collection, and payment innovations.
