A group of patients who were denied coverage for nutrition counseling services by Oxford Health Insurance Inc. are seeking to have their case certified as a class action lawsuit. The proposed class includes patients who had their claims denied by the insurer after receiving nutrition counseling for an eating disorder, as well as those who received these treatments without submitting a claim to Oxford.

During the relevant time period, over 400 patients were denied coverage for these treatments. It is estimated that as many as 1,795 patients would have received the same denial of coverage if they had sought nutrition counseling for an eating disorder. The patients are alleging that Oxford Health Insurance Inc. failed to cover necessary nutrition counseling services for those suffering from eating disorders, which has caused significant financial burden for them.

By seeking class action status, the patients hope to hold Oxford Health Insurance Inc. accountable for denying coverage for these essential treatments. They are seeking compensation for the financial burden caused by being denied coverage, as well as punitive damages for the insurer’s alleged failure to provide adequate coverage for eating disorder patients. The class action lawsuit aims to provide justice for all patients who were wrongfully denied coverage for nutrition counseling services and ensure that they receive the necessary care they need to manage their condition effectively.
