On Saturday, a group of teenagers with chronic illnesses and special medical needs attended their own prom at Nemours Children’s Health in Orlando. The “Out of This World” prom was hosted by the hospital, and before the event, the prom-goers had the opportunity to have their hair and makeup done by professional stylists. Harmony Taylor, who suffers from cyclic vomiting syndrome, expressed her excitement for the event and how cute she felt.

The hospital put in extra effort to make the prom a memorable experience for the teens. For many of the attendees, traditional school proms had been out of reach due to their chronic illnesses and complex health situations. The prom provided a safe and welcoming environment where they could participate in a rite of passage they may have otherwise missed out on.

The “Out of This World” prom received support from sponsors such as Five Below, Addition Financial, Opera Orlando, Florida Space Institute, BASE Camp Children’s Cancer Foundation, Aveda Salon, and Grove Salon. These organizations came together to ensure that the teens had a magical night to remember. The event was a chance for these brave teenagers to feel special, enjoy themselves, and create lasting memories with their peers in a setting that accommodated their unique medical needs.
