The Christian Brothers Academy football team was recognized as the male team of the year at the Syracuse.com All-CNY High School Sports Awards held at Syracuse University’s Goldstein Auditorium on June 20, 2024. This honor came after the team had an outstanding season that culminated in a perfect 14-0 record and a state Class AA title win. This marked their second state championship in three seasons, showcasing their dominance on the field.

Throughout the season, the Brothers faced very few challenges and outscored their opponents by a nearly 5-1 margin. As the competition grew tougher, the team seemed to only get stronger, winning sectional and state tournament games by significant margins. Quarterback Porter Matt led the team with 32 touchdowns and 2,385 passing yards, while running back Jamier Handford contributed 1,140 rushing yards. Additionally, wide receiver Syair Torrence, who is committed to Boston College, caught 38 passes for 696 yards and seven touchdowns.

The resilience and talent displayed by the Christian Brothers Academy football team earned them this prestigious recognition as boys team of the year. Their outstanding performance on the field and cohesive teamwork made them deserving recipients of this honor.
