During a meeting of defense chiefs from Pacific and Asian countries in Singapore, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed concern over China’s support for Russia in prolonging the war in Ukraine. The Ukrainian leader emphasized the negative implications of China’s support for Russia, stating that it goes against China’s declared policy of supporting territorial integrity and sovereignty.

Zelensky called on countries in the region to participate in the upcoming peace summit on Ukraine, scheduled for June 15th and 16th in Switzerland. Despite the Ukrainian side’s interest in dialogue with Chinese representatives, Zelensky noted that he had not been approached by them during the meeting in Singapore.

The Ukrainian leader also raised concerns about Russia pressuring countries not to participate in the peace summit with the help of China. Zelensky criticized China for being an instrument in Russian President Vladimir Putin’s hands, describing it as regrettable given China’s size, independence, and power.

The peace summit in Switzerland has invited around 160 delegations, including members of the G20, G7, and BRICS, as well as countries from other continents. US President Joe Biden is expected to participate, but Russian President Putin was not invited. Despite being invited, China and Brazil are unlikely to participate, as they have shown support for Russian interests in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

In his address at the meeting, Zelensky stated that he believes that diplomacy is key to resolving conflicts such as those involving Russia and Ukraine. He urged all countries to work together towards a peaceful solution that respects both sides’ rights and interests.

China has maintained a neutral stance on the conflict between Russia and Ukraine since its beginning. However, there are concerns about its growing ties with Russia due to increased military cooperation between them.

Zelensky highlighted this issue during his speech at the meeting, calling on China to distance itself from Russia’s actions in Ukraine. He stressed that any support for Russian aggression will only lead to further destabilization of the region.

Overall, while there may be disagreements between nations regarding how to resolve conflicts like these, it is important for all leaders to come together and work towards a peaceful solution that benefits everyone involved.
