China’s Olympic diving team for the Paris Games is a force to be reckoned with, boasting reigning world champions in all eight events on the Olympic program. The country has a strong lineup and the potential to make history by sweeping all eight gold medals at a single Olympics. In recent years, China has won seven out of eight gold medals in synchronized events and consistently earned six or seven golds in each of the last five Games.

The team announced on Tuesday includes five returning gold medalists from the Tokyo Olympics: Xie Siyi (men’s individual and synchro springboard), Wang Zongyuan (men’s synchro springboard), Cao Yuan (men’s platform), Quan Hongchan (women’s platform), and Chen Yuxi (women’s synchro platform). Additionally, the team features all eight divers who secured gold medals at the world championships in events also featured at the Olympics earlier this year.

One standout athlete on the team is Cao Yuan, who has participated in and won medals at every Olympics and world championships since 2012, except for 2023 Worlds. He claimed individual Olympic springboard gold in Rio and platform gold in Tokyo, with the goal of becoming the first diver to hold gold medals in all four Olympic diving events. Although specific events for each diver were not disclosed in the roster announcement, Lian and Yang are among those who will compete as reigning world champions in men’s synchro platform.

With such a talented and experienced team, China’s diving squad is poised for success at the upcoming Paris Games. With their exceptional performance history and potential to break new records, they are sure to be one of the top contenders for Olympic glory once again.
