The Chinese spacecraft, Chang’e-6, has landed on the far side of the Moon and is now collecting samples of dust and stones. This marks the first time in human exploration history that samples have been collected from this specific area on the Moon.

The lander, supported by the relay satellite Queqiao-2, used its engine to reduce speed and descend from above the lunar surface. It took photographs and transmitted data to identify potential dangers before landing safely on the surface. Chang’e-6 is equipped with technology to collect two kilograms of dust and stone samples using a drill and a robotic arm. These samples will provide valuable information about the formation of the Moon.

The mission involves significant engineering innovations and high risks due to the challenges of operating on the far side of the Moon. However, China has made technological advances in order to successfully complete this challenging mission. The probe carries international scientific payloads from agencies in France, Europe, and Italy as part of its ongoing exploration efforts.

China aims to launch a manned mission to the Moon before 2030 as part of its ongoing exploration efforts. Meanwhile, the United States plans to take astronauts back to the Moon with the Artemis 3 mission target for 2026. As Chang’e-6 continues its mission on
