China and Mexico have maintained a strong relationship in the aerospace industry, with a particular focus on personnel exchange. This partnership has been ongoing for 10 years and includes agreements for cooperation and high-level official visits between the two nations.
During the recent China-Celac Space Cooperation Forum held in Wuhan, Yao Jianting, the vice director general of the Systems Engineering Department of the China National Space Administration, emphasized the desire for greater collaboration in engineering matters. He mentioned plans for collaboration on lunar exploration projects and support for the United Nations Organization’s role in outer space. Yao also highlighted positive relationships with Venezuela, which was the first Latin American country to join China’s lunar program.
In terms of cooperation with other countries, Yao mentioned Brazil as a longstanding partner, including satellite launches and agreements for space monitoring. He also emphasized the strong relationship with Argentina, specifically in installing a station for the lunar program.
However, rumors have circulated about a Chinese space base in Argentina for military purposes. While Yao acknowledged that further transparency is needed on this matter, he stated that initial cooperation between China and Argentina is a positive step towards potential collaborations in the future.
