On Thursday, the Kansas City Chiefs cancelled team practice due to a medical emergency that occurred during a special teams meeting. According to reports, a backup defensive lineman had a seizure and went into cardiac arrest. The player was quickly attended to by the team’s medical staff and transported to the hospital by ambulance. Fortunately, the player is currently in stable condition.
The incident has resulted in the postponement of practice and media availability until Friday. ESPN’s Adam Teicher reported that the player involved in the medical emergency was defensive end BJ Thompson, who was drafted by the Chiefs in the fifth round last year and is entering his second year in the NFL. The Chiefs are wrapping up OTA workouts this week and will begin mandatory minicamp next week, followed by official training camp in July.
