Chelsea’s former manager Frank Lampard has reflected on his time in charge of the club and questioned whether he spent too much time “searching” for improvement. Lampard first became head coach of Chelsea in 2019 when the club was under a transfer embargo. In his first season, he led the team to fourth place in the Premier League and an FA Cup final. However, a difficult run of results in the following season led to his sacking in January 2021.

In an interview with BBC Radio 5 Live, Lampard admitted that towards the end of his time at Chelsea, he felt like he was constantly searching for ways to improve the team in a short period. He realized that this approach may have been draining both mentally and emotionally. Reflecting on his experience, he acknowledged that every defeat felt like a huge blow because of the pressures both outside and inside the club.

After his dismissal from Chelsea, Lampard returned for a second spell at the club as interim manager in April 2023. However, he struggled to reignite the team’s form and only managed to win one of his 11 games in charge. Despite the challenges he faced, Lampard emphasized the importance of learning from these experiences and finding a balance in life to deal with future obstacles more effectively.

Ultimately, Lampard highlighted the need to take the positives from his time at Chelsea and use them to handle situations better in the future. He stressed the importance of maintaining a balance in life and learning from past experiences to grow as a manager.

Lampard’s interview is now available on BBC Sounds, where listeners can hear him discuss his time at Chelsea and reflect on what went wrong.
