Chelsea has announced that Mauricio Pochettino will be leaving the club by mutual consent after just one year as manager. Despite finishing sixth in the Premier League, the Blues missed out on Champions League qualification and a trophy.

In two years since an American consortium led by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital took ownership of Chelsea, the club has spent over £1 billion on new players. Pochettino cited a lack of experience and a long list of injuries as reasons for the team’s inconsistent results.

Despite setbacks such as losing the League Cup final to Liverpool and being defeated in the FA Cup semi-finals by Manchester City, there were positive signs towards the end of the season. Chelsea ended on a high note with five consecutive wins, securing a spot in European competition for the following season.

Pochettino expressed his gratitude to the Chelsea ownership group and sporting directors for giving him the opportunity to be part of the club’s history. He believes that Chelsea is well-positioned to continue progressing in both the Premier League and Europe.

Chelsea’s sporting directors, Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, also expressed gratitude towards Pochettino for his service during his time at Stamford Bridge. They welcomed him back anytime and wished him all the best in his future coaching endeavors.
