On Wednesday, the Chargers announced that they have released center Corey Linsley. Linsley, who missed most of last season due to a heart condition, had expressed his intention to retire in January. John Spanos, the Chargers’ president of football operations, confirmed in a statement that retirement was indeed the case.

Spanos praised Linsley as an ideal NFL player who exhibited qualities like professionalism, mentorship of younger players, work ethic, integrity, leadership, competitive drive, and a sense of humor. Linsley wore the ‘C’ on his jersey throughout his time with the Chargers, reflecting his outstanding character on and off the field. Although his NFL career has ended, Spanos expressed excitement about the future endeavors of Linsley, his wife Anna, and their children Seamus, Killian, Quinn, and Ruth.

Linsley was selected in the fifth round by the Green Bay Packers in 2014 before joining the Chargers in 2021. He started all 144 games he played for both teams, showcasing his consistency and reliability throughout his career.
