Emmanuel Álvarez Agis spoke to the Chamber of Construction (Camarco) on Tuesday, expressing his concerns about the impact of the government’s adjustment measures on the construction industry. He pointed out that public works and infrastructure were currently being hit hardest by these changes, and that state investment in public works was crucial for long-term economic stability.

Comparing the current situation to the early years of Convertibility in the 1990s, Álvarez Agis noted that external investments were critical for economic stability then, but that they are now hindered by unfavorable exchange rates. He emphasized the importance of external investments for Argentina to continue growing economically.

The construction sector is facing significant challenges, including high inflation in dollars and rising costs that outstrip salary increases. Álvarez Agis criticized the government’s approach to combating inflation, warning that a severe recession could have disastrous consequences for employment and revenue.

In conclusion, Álvarez Agis expressed his concern about the limited room for further adjustment and its negative impact on the economy. He emphasized the need for external investments and a more sustainable approach to economic growth in order to prevent further setbacks.
