The women’s athletics teams of Central College recently emerged victorious in the Marjorie Giles All-Sports Championship Trophy sponsored by the American Rivers Conference, marking their first win since the 2003-04 academic year. With a total of 57.5 points, Central narrowly beat Wartburg College’s total of 56.2 points to claim the trophy.

Central, which sponsors ten out of the eleven women’s sports considered, demonstrated exceptional performance across various sports. The Dutch men finished third in the Elmer Hertel All-Sports Trophy standings with 50.5 points, while Central placed second in the Combined All-Sports Trophy rankings.

In this competition, each sport is awarded nine points, with descending point allocation meaning that the last-place team receives one point. Track and field has different point allocations for outdoor and indoor championships; outdoor champions receive 6.3 points while indoor champions receive 2.7 points. Point totals are adjusted for swimming and diving due to limited participation across all conference institutions.

On the women’s side, Central claimed conference championships in softball and dance while placing as runners-up in golf and cross country. Overall, the women’s teams secured eight top-four finishes. On the men’s side, Central did not secure a conference title but recorded a runner-up finish in cross country and third-place finishes in football, golf, and basketball.

Central College has a rich history in all-sports championships, having won the men’s title fourteen times and the women’s title ten times. This recent victory marks another significant milestone for this esteemed institution’s athletic program.
