In the College Sports Communicators’ Fred Stabley Sr. Writing Contest, Central College received three awards, including two national honors. These accolades came in addition to the three entries recognized in the contest last year. One of these awards was for first place in the Coach/Administrator Profile category, featuring faculty members Keith Jones and Russ Goodman who also serve as assistant coaches for softball and women’s soccer respectively.

Another award Central received was for second place nationally and first place in District 7 for Event Coverage, with an article titled “Believe it! Terrell shot seals Central men’s basketball crown” covering an American Rivers title-clinching victory at Simpson College. Additionally, a profile of former Central defensive back Adam Gregg ’06, who now serves as Iowa’s lieutenant governor, titled “Schipper Stadium path leads to Iowa Capitol for Gregg,” took second place in District 7 in the General Feature/Blog category.

These entries were judged in the College Division, which includes NCAA Division II and III institutions, NAIA schools, and two-year colleges. District 7 comprises colleges and universities in Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, Nebraska, Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Saskatchewan
