Arcangelo Carosi, a World War II Army veteran from western Pennsylvania, is celebrating his 100th birthday. Born in Ellwood City, he played a vital role during the war by running a medical supply depot in Chabua, India, that provided American forces with necessary supplies as they fought against the Japanese. After the war, he dedicated 27 years to working at the VA hospital in Butler, where he served as the chief X-ray technician.

Described by his son Paul as one of the hardest-working individuals he has known, Arcangelo had a strong work ethic that extended beyond his hospital job. He would come home from work and then engage in remodeling projects, such as installing kitchens and family rooms or adding extensions to people’s homes. Some of his proudest achievements include his work in treating cancer patients and instilling in his son the value of education, urging him to attend college.

Arcangelo was instrumental in building the American Legion Post 778, where he now spends much of his time socializing with friends. Additionally, he constructed his own home and much of his furniture from scratch in Butler. With a strong commitment to staying active, he believes that keeping busy is what has helped him live a long life. He credits vitamins, playing cards, and hobbies like stamp collecting for contributing to his longevity.

Arcangelo Carosi’s dedication to serving others is evident not only through his contributions during World War II but also through his subsequent career at the VA hospital and support for education and strong family values. His legacy will continue to inspire future generations who know him as an example of hard work and perseverance.
