At 102 years old, Deborah Szekely continues to work three days a week at Rancho La Puerta, the integrated health resort she and her husband founded in 1940. The resort, considered one of the first of its kind in North America, was established during a period of hardship due to World War II.

Facing financial difficulties and visa issues, the Szekelys settled in Mexico near the San Diego border. They started Rancho La Puerta with a focus on improving health through vegetarianism and exercise. Deborah has held various roles at the resort, from chef to operations manager, and continues to be actively involved.

Deborah’s thirst for knowledge and interest in new experiences drive her to always be learning. She approaches each day with the same zest for life, always eager to explore new ideas and opportunities. Her dedication to staying informed and engaged has been a key factor in her thriving at 102 years old.

In addition to her work at Rancho La Puerta, Deborah enjoys trying new things and expanding her horizons. She meets with renowned speakers, hosts lectures, and engages in events both at the resort and outside. Her active and engaged lifestyle serves as an inspiration to others, proving that age is just a number when it comes to pursuing a fulfilling and enriching life.

Rancho La Puerta is now run by Deborah’s daughter Sarah Livia Brightwood but Deborah still participates in daily activities at the resort where she meets with renowned speakers, hosts lectures
