The theme of this year’s celebration was “Jubilee – A Celebrational Fair to Promote Healthy Living,” focusing on mental health awareness. The event took place at Retreat Doctors’ Hospital and included a mental health panel discussion, engaging activities, and informative booths to encourage healthy living.

The mental health panel discussion was moderated by 8News Weekend Evening Anchor Rolynn Wilson and highlighted the importance of mental health, particularly within the Black community. Vendors at the event focused on mind, health, and self-improvement. Dr. Nancy Boykin, chief operating officer and chief nursing officer for HCA Retreat Doctors’ Hospital, emphasized the importance of addressing the stigma around mental health and providing resources to the community.

Partners of the event included healthcare professionals from HCA Virginia, community leaders from HCA Virginia’s Black Colleague Network, and WHOA Behavioral Health. In addition to the mental health focus, the event also featured music, food, and opportunities to participate in activities like yoga, line dancing, and hip-hop aerobics. Overall, the event aimed to promote healthy living and wellness within the Richmond community.

One of the highlights of the event was a panel discussion featuring local experts who shared their insights on mental health awareness within the Black community. The panelists emphasized that it is crucial to address stigma around mental illnesses such as depression and anxiety in order for individuals to seek help when needed.

The vendors showcased various products that promote physical fitness such as workout equipment and apparel but also had an array of self-care items such as essential oils and meditation cushions.

Dr. Boykin stated that “We want this celebration to be a one-stop-shop for all things related to healthy living.” She encouraged attendees to take advantage of all the resources available at each booth while emphasizing that maintaining good physical health goes hand in hand with taking care of your mind.

Overall, this block party celebration encouraged attendees to embrace a more holistic approach towards their wellbeing by promoting not only physical fitness but also emotional resilience through its workshops.
