The Chicago Cubs are hosting a statue dedication ceremony in honor of Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg at 3 PM CT on Sunday, June 23. This date marks the 40th anniversary of the infamous “Sandberg Game.” The ceremony will be broadcasted live on Marquee Sports Network and the Marquee Sports Network App.

Sandberg will be the fifth Cubs player to have a statue erected at Wrigley Field, joining other Cubs legends like Ernie Banks, Fergie Jenkins, Ron Santo, and Billy Williams at Statue Row. Hall of Fame broadcaster Harry Caray also has a statue there.

The day will be filled with Ryne Sandberg programming on Marquee Sports Network, starting with Cubs Classics featuring the Sandberg Game and concluding with the live broadcast of the statue dedication ceremony. The statue was commissioned by The Fine Art Studio of Rotblatt-Amrany, the same company responsible for the statues of other Cubs legends and the Michael Jordan statue outside the United Center. The sculptor of the statue is Lou Cella.

Sandberg played the majority of his 16-year major league career with the Cubs from 1982 to 1997. He led the Cubs to N.L. East Division titles in 1984 and 1989, and was named N.L. Most Valuable Player in 1984. Sandberg was also a 10-time All-Star, nine-time Gold Glove winner, and seven-time Silver Slugger winner. In 2005, he was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame with impressive career stats, including a .285 batting average, 1061 RBI
