At the Long Center: Dell Hall, Cedar Park High School basketball coach Kami Williams and Stony Point High School boys basketball coach Antoine Thompson were announced as the Girls and Boys Team Coaches of the Year respectively at the Austin Area High School Sports Awards. The event, sponsored by Thomas J. Henry Law and USA TODAY Sports, recognized over 250 student-athletes from the Austin area.
Williams had previously been an assistant coach for back-to-back state championship teams and led Cedar Park to its third state appearance in four years in her first year as head coach. Despite finishing third in District 25-5A, Cedar Park showcased a strong 27-12 record, making it to the state semifinal after defeating rivals Liberty Hill and Glenn along the way.
Thompson guided Stony Point to its first appearance in the UIL state tournament which ended in a runner-up finish with a remarkable record of 38-2 and a perfect 14-0 district score. Under his leadership, Stony Point boasted a 70-4 record over the past two seasons and was named finalists for Boys Team of the Year.
