Case Western Reserve University Hosts Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Meeting on Misinformation and its Impact on Public Health

A meeting on diversity, equity, and inclusion is taking place today (May 15) at Case Western Reserve University. The Department of Population and Quantitative Health Sciences-based Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Learning Group is hosting the event from noon to 1:30 p.m. via Zoom. This group provides a platform for members of the university community to share and discuss articles, current events, personal, and professional experiences related to diversity, equity, and inclusion in research.

The group serves as a safe space for individuals who want to enhance their knowledge and skills in diversity, equity, and inclusion. It is open to those who are new to these topics as well as those who have been working in this field for a while. Today’s session will focus on “Doubt and Deception: How Disinformation Impacts Equity and Erodes Public Health—A Case Study on Menthol Cigarette Bans.”

Stephanie Pike-Moore, a sociobehavioral epidemiologist, research scientist, and adjunct professor in the department, will lead the discussion. She will share a tool that can help individuals determine their susceptibility to misinformation. Participants are encouraged to reflect on the long-term effects that misinformation can have on public health and trust.
