In a surprising turn of events, Alex Caruso and Mark Daigneault have reunited once again, this time with the Oklahoma City Thunder instead of their previous team, the G League’s OKC Blue. The 30-year-old Caruso was traded to the Thunder in exchange for Josh Giddey going to the Chicago Bulls.

Daigneault, at 39, had a unique path to success as he transitioned from head coach of the Blue to an assistant and then head coach of the Thunder in 2020. His coaching abilities were recognized when he was named Coach of the Year after guiding the youngest first seed in NBA history.

Caruso’s NBA journey began when he went undrafted in 2016 and played for the OKC Blue, eventually leading him to a successful career with the Los Angeles Lakers. He then signed with the Bulls in 2021 and had individual success, earning back-to-back All-Defensive Team honors and shooting well from 3-point range in a challenging Chicago offense.

The two share a unique history and are excited to work together again with the Thunder. Caruso expressed his enthusiasm for reuniting with Daigneault and joked about being cussed out during practice. The two have a close relationship and are looking forward to hitting the ground running with the Thunder.

As they aim to contend, Daigneault will have more opportunities to shape the roster and bring in players that fit the team’s style. Caruso’s return to play under Daigneault shows the value of building relationships in the NBA. Even though Caruso’s contract is only for one year, both sides are optimistic about their beneficial partnership.
